..."Truly, I say to you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the offering box. For they
all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on." People give charitable gifts for a variety of reasons. Some give because they believe it helps society; others give because they seek recognition. Some people appreciate the tax benefit. Many give from a sense of gratitude or "being blessed". Others feel a combination of all of the above. However, I think it is important during this season of giving to remember that charitable giving is at the heart of the Gospel. And the model of all giving is Christ himself: "For the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."
